What is Popular Vote?
The popular vote in an election is a way of choosing a candidate and is dependent on the majority of votes out of the full number of voters. It acts as a form of direct democracy in which the citizens choose who they feel is the most fit to become their president. A candidate may lose an election despite winning the popular vote, due to the fact that the electoral college ends up choosing the president.
